The Quiet Daughter Speaks| Quietly Waiting | | Posted by Evelyn on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 9:52am | It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord . . . But though He cause grief, yet will He have compassion according to the multitude of his mercies. For He doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men. (Lamentations 3:26)
Yes! It is coming! My new book, the third in the Quiet Daughter series, Quietly Waiting! And even now, I am quietly awaiting it. Perhaps it will be December. I'll let you know. Here I'll try to post an excerpt from it:
As they turned into the driveway to the land Judy had been given by her parents, neither spoke. Steve drove very slowly. Judy looked around, and Steve noticed she was clinching her left fist up hard and holding onto the door with all her might with her right hand. Steve was glad he had mowed everything and had the yard cleaned up—so glad.
Judy stared as though it were a strange sight to her. The truck came to a slow stop. Judy didn’t move. Steve didn’t know whether he should get out and go around and help her out or not. She might not want to get out at all. She didn’t speak, and he felt like he had not the right to speak. He figured she must be experiencing something like the fear he had when going back into the little town in Arkansas, remembering the landlord and the sheriff, knowing he was wanted, yet wanting desperately to see Gertrude and Garrett—to take care of them, to nurse Trudy back to health. He shivered.
Suddenly, Judy moved, looked over at him a second, and then reached for the door handle. Steve jumped out and ran around the truck to open it for her. She rose from the truck, looking pale and terrified. Then, with big eyes, she began to walk slowly toward the house.
“Would you like me to go away for a while, to leave you alone? The house isn’t locked.”
“No!” She stopped and reached back to grab his arm. The grip was far stronger than he would have thought possible for a woman. “No. Please don’t leave me. I can’t do this alone.” Then she seemed to turn her thoughts to him. “If you have things to do . . . or if you don’t have time, I can come another time.”
Steve put his hand on hers, which still gripped his arm. She suddenly turned red and tried to withdraw her hand, but he took it and tucked it into the crook of his arm, keeping his hand over hers for a minute. “No, Judy, I have nothing else to do today until it is time to cook supper for my son. And that will not be for several more hours. Come on, let me show you where we’ve plowed up a place for a garden. Of course, it is a little too early for planting yet, but it won’t be long.”
“A garden!” said Judy in wonder. “The house is red!”
“The front of it is, and this side. We’re not finished with the painting yet. Do you not like the red paint?”
“Nothing is the same. Well, some things. That old shed. Just tear it down! It’s horrible!”
Steve laughed. “If you say so, Mrs. Roberts. Your wish is my command.”
Judy turned red again. “Oh, and I said I never told people what I wanted. I’m sorry. It just came out. Of course, if you have a use for that shed . . . You’re the one living here, not me.”
“It shall be torn down by the next time you come. Do you feel up to walking through the house?” He still had her hand in the crook of his arm.
She grasped his arm a little tighter. “Not . . . not today, I think.” She pulled back on his arm, and he stopped, looked down at her, and smiled.
“It’s OK,” he assured her.
They very slowly walked through the yard and around to the back of the house. All the junk that had filled the yard was gone, but Telly’s old truck was still there. Steve was conscious that Judy was looking very carefully, taking each step after noticing the differences. There really was very little sameness to the yard he had first walked into when he came to begin setting up camp here with his son.
Judy expressed amazement at intervals at how clean and different the yard looked. Eventually, after a few minutes of looking around, she dropped her hand from his arm.

| | | | | Upcoming Book Signing for Christian Store Week | | Posted by Evelyn on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 9:00am | Hey, Everybody!
On Thursday, August the 6th, I'll be at the Living Room Bookstore in Bastrop, Texas. 301 West Highway 71, signing my first two books, The Quiet Daughter speaks and Ripples of a Quiet Trust. I'll be there from 11:30 to 1:30 at least. This is in recognition of Christian Store Week. They have many other activities planned as well, and other authors coming that week. If you've lost Bibles, this is a good time to replace them. If you've lost books, you need new ones. You never know what you might get free if you've been through the fire. At least come see me while I'm there. I think they have concerts on each Saturday on either side of that date. Hope to see some friends there--old friends, new friends, or future friends!
Yes! I do have a new book coming out soon. I wish I could give you a date. I'll let you know as soon as I know. Could be December, surely no later than February! I'll give you a little insight to it in a seperate blog post.
Also, hey/1 My first book, The Quiet Daughter Speaks, is now in e-book form for those of you who have kindle or other such reading tools! Spread the news! | | | | | Changes | | Posted by Evelyn on Friday, September 30, 2011 at 8:36am | Our lives will never be the same. All events in Bastrop County are now dated Before the Fire or After the Fire. So many of my friends have lost everything but their lives and those of their family members, and for their lives we are all most grateful. I have tried to write each of you, my friends who have lost your homes, but for some I cannot find a current address. Some letters returned to me, and for some I still don't know whether you lost your home or not.
With this note, I want to honor and bless you in the name of Jesus. I find little to do for each one, but as you tell me or God shows me, I want to do something for you. Yes, life will never go back to what it was before the fire, especially for those that lost so much, and yet, God will bless you again and give you a life better than ever. Look at Job. That's how I think He's going to bless His children who lost so much. The latter will be better than the former.
Father, please bless each and every one who has lost anything to the huge fires in Texas recently. Bless them more than they can ask. Bless them with Yourself and all that You offer. Provide all that they need. Show me how to pray for them and show all the rest of us how to bless them. I feel so silly, God, asking You to provide for Your own children. You love them far more than I do, and You always provide for Your children. But how can I not ask it? I ask You to pour out your peace on them about the losses over which they now grieve, so many losses that money cannot buy back. Thank you, Father. Even in the face of loss, we love You and serve You and continue to Trust You. | | | | | Book signing at the Living Room Book Store | | Posted by Evelyn on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 1:24pm | Yes! That's This coming Saturday, March 26, from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. If you don't have your book yet, come by and see me and get a signed copy. Besides it's cheaper buying it from me. Or if you do, just come by anyway if you have time, just to support me. I'm looking forward to seeing my friends and meeting new friends.
I speak a blessing over each one of you, my readers today. How long has it been since you saw this in the King James Version?
Be at peace among yourselves. And we exhort you, brethren,
admonish the idlers, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be
patient with them all. See that none of you repays evil for evil, but
always seek to do good to one another and to all. Rejoice always,
pray constantly, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will
of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit, do not de-
spise prophesying, but test everything; hold fast what is good, ab-
stain from every form of evil.
May the God of peace Himself sanctify you wholly; and may your
spirit and soul and body be kept sound and blameless at the coming
of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful, and He will do
it.
